Leeds partners with Canal & River Trust to conserve waterways
Leeds Building Society has agreed to adopt a mile-long stretch of waterways maintained by the Canal & River Trust in central Leeds.
The company is moving to a new headquarters by the river along the stretch of waterway that will benefit from the project.
The two-year adoption will see the contribution of the first year of GRAHAM, who acted as the prime contractor for the new headquarters on Sovereign Street.

The one-mile stretch into central Leeds is located between the Wellington Place Footbridge and the Crown Point Bridge, and includes parts of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and the Aire & Calder Navigation, waterways managed by the Canal & River Trust.
The partnership aims to maintain the historic lock gates at Granary Wharf, keep waterways clean by removing plastics and trash, plant wildflowers and install nesting boxes to help bring more wildlife to the central Leeds.
The trust offers communities and businesses the option of adopting a section of their local waterway; by 2025, he hopes that a quarter of the 2,000-mile-long inland waterway network will have passed.
